Though the syllabus for OEE gives a general outline of the program, no two OEE student have identical grade break downs for three main reasons:
- Each assigned assignment is open ended
- Students developadditional assignments to help them develop skills they want to adopt into their classroom or other educational practices
- Students determine the weight of each component, then reflect and adjust the weights based on their experiences and interests
- At the beginning of the year a student might think the journalling assignment is redundant or boring and give it 10% weight. After trying new journalling techniques and doing well, they may increase the weight to 15%.
- A student may create a “knot tying” assignment and reflection for themselves thinking that it would be interesting because they want to do mountaineering, so they weight 20%. After experiencing sewing in a GOC, they may realize they love sewing and want to really develop that skill, so they reduce knot tying to 5% and and learn to sew an entire outfit for 15%.
